Conservation Works Begin at the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park

Conservation works have officially begun on five of the main monuments within the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park, marking the start of the implementation phase of the Conservation Plan in accordance with the Park Management Plan.

The interventions will focus on:

  • The Theatre of Bylis;
  • The Theatre of Klos (ancient Nikaia);
  • The Cistern and the Justinian Baths;
  • The Prytaneion and the Arsenal;
  • Basilica D.

The works are aimed at stabilising, conserving, and ensuring the long-term preservation of these monuments, in line with international standards for the conservation of archaeological heritage. Alongside the physical interventions, the project will contribute to improving the park’s management and creating better conditions for visitors, research activities, and the sustainable use of the site.

These interventions are being carried out under the project “EU for Economic Development – Tourism-led Local Economic Development, with a Focus on Cultural Heritage”, funded by the European Union and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS). The project is implemented by AICS in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports and the Albanian cultural heritage institutions.

The launch of the conservation works represents a significant milestone in the implementation of the project’s investments for the protection and enhancement of the Bylis–Klos Archaeological Park, with the objective of strengthening its role as one of Albania’s leading cultural heritage and tourism destinations.
